The Grace of Giving
Remember this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. Each person should do as he has decided in his heart-not out of regret or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work (2 Corinthians 9:6-8) (HCSB).
Why does God want you to excel in the grace of giving? It's because he influences the world through his people. God gives to you so he can give through you. The Bible tells us that everything we have is a gift from God (1 Chronicles 29:14). As you give faithfully, the world is changed for the glory of God: the gospel is preached, lives are touched, people are fed, bodies are healed, churches are built; and you, in turn, are blessed by God so that you can give again.
Where is Your Heart
Giving not only supports this ministry, but it also tells the giver where his or her heart is at. All things come from God including money. God is the sustainer of all things (Col 1:17). With that being said, a great passage to study on the principle of giving is Matthew 6:19-21:
19 "Don't collect for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But collect for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don't break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Where is your heart?
Will you depend on God, or is your faith found in your checking account?
Do you trust God?
If you do, then you should trust Him with all aspects of you life, including your finances.
